The year of the Rooster is over, make way for the Dog. The Lunar New Year took place on Feb. 16 — but at St. Mary’s College of Maryland, members of the community got to celebrate early. On Feb. 9, 2018, the Department of International Language and Cultures, Asian Studies Program, Asian Pacific- Islander American Club, and the Student Government Association Programs Board put on a Lunar New Year celebration. The event, which took place in Daugherty Palmer Commons, featured “dumpling making/eating,” karaoke, crafts, chopstick competition, and dances performed by students from the Chinese Culture and Art Institute from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, according to an all-student email sent to promote the event.
