This year marked the 12th anniversary of the Petruccelli 5K Race/Walk, begun by the Petruccelli family in honor of St. Mary’s student John Petruccelli, who was killed in his senior year when he was hit by a drunk driver while riding his bicycle. A scholarship was also started by the family in honor of John, and the race has grown into a Hawktoberfest event that boasted 80 pre-registered runners this year.
To the St. Mary’s College Campus Community: as your president, I am considering signing on with other presidents around the country to the Amethyst Initiative. The initiative asks that we reopen a national discussion on the drinking age
Dear Miss Meghan,
My girlfriend and I broke up a month ago and I am still depressed about it. I can’t stop thinking about her. What can I do?
This weekend the Board of Trustees will hold their first quarterly meeting for the 2010-2011 academic year. It’s an exciting time in the St. Mary’s governing world, as it will be the first meeting with President Urgo and our new Chairperson, Molly Mahoney, who was profiled in the last edition of the Point News.
It’s no secret that drinking is prevalent on campus. Just wander around Lewis Quad, the Crescents, or the Greens on a Thursday, Friday and Saturday night and you will be overwhelmed by the number of students currently drinking, drunk, or otherwise intoxicated headed to parties, or perhaps on their way to the hospital for treatment of alcohol poisoning.
